Spa water change calculator: how often should you drain it?
A spa’s small volume and high temperature saturate the water much faster than a pool. Enter the volume and the number of daily bathers to know when to change the water.
Result
Full water change recommended50days
At each water change, take the chance to clean the water line and rinse the cartridge filter.
How this calculation works
This calculation applies the reference water-saturation rule:
Water change frequency (days) = (Volume in litres ÷ 10) ÷ number of bathers per day
The smaller the spa and the more it is used, the faster the water fills with residues (sweat, cosmetics, organic matter) that treatment can no longer offset. This rule gives the point at which a full water change becomes necessary.
Frequently asked questions
Why change a spa’s water more often than a pool’s?
A spa holds very little water (1 to 3 m³) at 35 to 40 °C. That combination concentrates residues and speeds up bacterial growth: the water saturates within weeks, whereas a pool lasts the whole season.
Can water changes be spaced out?
Careful maintenance (stable disinfection, clean filter, showering before use) slows saturation but does not remove it. Below the calculated threshold, the water becomes hard to balance again and is best fully renewed.
What should I do right after a water change?
Clean the shell and water line, rinse or replace the cartridge filter, then refill and rebalance the water (pH first, then disinfectant) before the first use.
